Thank You from Nigeria
US Branch members may remember earlier this year at the IFE 2007 Annual General Meeting in Cambridge, England, we presented to a delegation of Nigerian Fire Officers some study materials for them to use to prepare for the IFE examinations next spring. The exams are used for assignment and promotional purposes in Nigeria. The following is from the lead fire officer who received the books.

I have been very busy with the training of the new cadets that were recruited into our fire department since august 14th when I got back to Nigeria. I want to say a very big thank you for being an encouragement to me in person and to all my other firefighters in Nigeria. The books has boosted our morale so much that so many people will be doing the IFE graduateship exam from the aviation industry in Nigeria. More of our new cadets are also registering as new international students. I received the fire pump book sent to me by post (mail) and I used it as a trainer in the fire training school. It is a very good book.

IFE Exam Information
For those who may want to take an IFE examination next spring, (to test your skills and/or to learn something) Here are the particulars to applying, studying and taking the exams.

US Branch - IFE Brokers Membership Agreement with Center for Public Safety and Excellence
We are pleased to announce the US Branch has brokered an agreement between the Institution of Fire Engineers and the Center for Public Safety Excellence--the certifying body for the US Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD) program--to recognize CFO designees in the IFE Member Grade (MIFireE). CFO members may now submit an abbreviated application form which will be reviewed by the US Branch Membership Committee, endorsed and then a final review made by the Assessment Panel at IFE HQ for the applicant to receive his/her IFE certificate and grade designation.

To gain this international recognition will be a big boost for US CFOs and help them with networking, information exchange and making the fire service/engineering discipline a truly global body. There are currently approximately 500 CFO designees.
